Apprenticeships
Information for Learners
Apprentices earn a wage and will work alongside experienced staff to gain job-specific skills. As part of the apprenticeship you will attend a day's training out of your work environment to work towards nationally recognised qualifications. This provides useful training relevant to your job and will help progess your chosen career.
What is an Apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships are the equivalent to 5 good GCSE passes (Level 2) and Advanced Apprenticeships are the equivalent to 2 A-level passes (Level 3). Apprentices work towards:
-
An appropriate work-based qualification such as a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) at either Level 2 or Level 3
-
Key Skills qualifications e.g. working in teams, problem-solving, communication and using new technology
-
A technical qualification such as BTEC or City & Guilds (relevant to the specific Apprenticeship)
-
Other qualifications or requirements as specified by the particular occupation
The minimum salary is £95 per week (£2.50 per hour), however some apprentices earn significantly more.
Level 2 Apprenticeships run for approximately 9 - 12 months and Advanced Apprenticeships run for approximately 12 - 18 months.
