School Leavers
If you have already left school or are about to, then we have a variety of programmes that you may want to consider to further develop your skills base.
These programmes are designed to provide practical experience, employability skills to enhance your chances of finding work or earn a salary whilst learning and gaining a qualification.
Pre-Apprenticeships – the Gateway Programme
‘Gateway’ is a short programme aimed at 16-18 year olds who want an introduction to the modern workplace and career, Further Education and training options. Gateway is delivered in an environment that gives you the opportunity to improve your confidence and ability to work with others.
Run over 11 weeks, you will be required to attend 16 1/2 hours a week (3 days Monday - Wednesday) to training sessions that will develop individual personal and social skills, basic key skills and employability.
Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships are the equivalent to 5 good GCSE passes. As an Apprentice you will work towards achieving a work-based learning qualification such as an NVQ Level 2, Key Skills and, in some cases, a relevant knowledge-based qualification such as a BTEC. These provide the skills you need for your chosen career and will allow progression into an Advanced Apprenticeship.
The minimum salary is £95 a week (£2.50 per hour); however some apprentices earn significantly more. The key benefits of doing an apprenticeship are:

Advanced Apprenticeships
Advanced Apprenticeships are the equivalent to 2 A-level passes. As an Advanced Apprentice you will work towards achieving a work-based learning qualification such as an NVQ Level 3, Key Skills and, in most cases, a relevant knowledge-based qualification such as a BTEC. To start this programme, you should ideally have 5 GCSEs (grade C or above) or have completed an Apprenticeship.
